His contributions have been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the ARP's Early Career Award, SPSP's Distinguished Fellowship, EAPP's Early Achievement Award, and APS's Rising Star Award. His research inspired a cover story in The Economist, a 2014 theater production titled "Privacy," multiple TED talks, and a video game, in addition to being featured in thousands of press articles, books, podcasts, and documentaries.

Beyond academia, Kosinski regularly advises government agencies and leading corporations on the ethical and practical implications of artificial intelligence. He has testified before entities such as the FTC, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the European Parliament, and the DoJ. His research directly informed privacy regulations, notably contributing to a record $5 billion fine imposed on Facebook. Kosinski was also behind the first press article highlighting the dangers posed by Cambridge Analytica, exposing the privacy risks exploited by the firm, and evaluating the effectiveness of their methods.
